Breeding Section
There was a shortage of quality sucklers on offer but those presented for sale were met with firm demand.
In-calf Friesian cross heifers from Norton Green sold up to £1460, £1440 and £1390 with feeding cows topping at £1400 for a Montbeliarde at 45 months of age.
Young Bulls
Young bulls topped at £1510 for a 13-month-old British Blue from JW & HL Nash with a 10-month-old Stabiliser from Robert Frith of Thorpe at £1350 and a 10-month-old Limousin from the same vendor at £1340.
A bunch of three 13-month-old Aberdeen Angus, again from Messrs Nash, sold up to £1300 with a 7-month-old Limousin from Robert Flower and Family of Alstonefield at £1215.
Steers
There were 320 steers on offer with a top price being a new market record of £2900 for a pair of 24-month-old South Devon steers from Ian Hollis of Burton on Trent with other South Devons up to £2520 for a bunch of five, at 23 months old, and a further bunch of five, at 24 months of age, at £2380 again from the same vendor.
Hereford steers from FH White of New Buildings Farm, at 22 months of age, sold up to £2570 with a 26-month-old Hereford steer, from A & L Worthington, at £2310.
Aberdeen Angus steers from Messrs Done of Bosley, at 24 months old, sold up to £2570 for a pair with another pair of 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus at £2480 from the same vendor and a bunch of three 22-month-old Aberdeen Angus from A G Mellor of Sutton at £2420. John Kirkham & Family of Hartington sold a bunch of three 24-month-old Aberdeen Angus at £2390.
A pair of Limousin steers at 22 months old, from James Gilman & Partners of Bosley, topped at £2520 with a single 25-month-old Limousin from Messrs Done at Bosley at £2380 and a pair of 21-month-old Limousin from FH White of New Buildings Farm sold to £2250.
Flekvieh steers from R Hall & Sons of Croxden, at 23 months of age, were particularly well sold at £2420 with Charolais steers from Messrs Done, at 25 months of age, sold up to £2360 for a pair.
British Blue steers from A & L Worthington, at 27 months of age, sold up to £2320 with a 24-month-old also selling to £2320 from F & White and a 28-month-old British Blue steer from Messrs Done sold to £2280.
Simmental steers from Messrs Done, at 27 months of age, sold up to £2230 with Shorthorn steers from Messrs Griffin of Butterton, at 22 months of age, selling up to £2040 and Montbeliarde steers from FH White, at 21 months of age, sold to £2000.
Younger cattle sold up to £1880 for an 11-month-old Limousin from Geoff Nutter of Grindon with others at 12 months old, from the same vendor, at £1800 and a pair of 13-month-old Limousin from Jeff Barlow of Froghall at £1640. An 11-month-old British Blue steer from Graham Jones of Langley sold to £1640.
A remarkable trade produced an overall average for steers of £1659.81.
Heifers
There were 244 heifers on offer which topped at £2500 for a 29-month-old Flekvieh from R Hall & Sons of Croxden.
Simmental heifers at 26 months of age sold to £2340 for Messrs Woodcock of Lower Cliff Farm who also had another pair at 24 months of age selling to £1950 with a pair of Simmental at 22 months of age selling to £2270 for AD & J Potts of Astbury.
A Pair of Hereford heifers at 23 months of age sold to £2200 for BP & JR Needham of Heaton and a single 26-month-old from A & L Worthington sold to £2180.
Aberdeen Angus heifers from A G Mellor sold to £2200 for a pair at 22 months of age with AD & J Potts selling to £2100 for a pair at 20 months of age.
A Limousin heifer at 20 months of age sold to £2100 for B & BM Rowlinson and James Gilman & Partners of Bosley sold a pair of Limousin at 23 months of age to £2080.
John Kirkham & Family of Hartington sold a 29-month-old Dairy Shorthorn heifer to £2080 with a Blonde making the same price at 21 months old for AD & J Potts.
A Holstein heifer from PJ & PA Mitchell sold to £2040 at 26 months of age and British Blue heifers from Rob Machin & Family of Horton sold remarkably well to £2010 for a 17-month-old and £1930 for three at 15 months of age.
In the younger cattle, a pair of 10-month-old Limousin sold to £1640 for Geoff Nutter of Grindon with a single at 13 months of age selling to £1640 also, from MA Bowyer. A 12-month-old Limousin sold to £1500 for Amy Seabridge of Hollywood.
The overall average for heifers was a pleasing £1422.91.
