A total entry of 307 Store and Breeding cattle were on offer, with trade in all sections considered to be firmer than the last sale three weeks ago with a good number of buyers in attendance looking for all categories of stock
Breeding Section
There was a shortage of cows with calves at foot with a Shorthorn Heifer with a Shorthorn Heifer Calf at foot from D Burton of Meir Heath exchanged hands for £1240 with Breeding Heifers from M Cawser of Sudbury up to £1200.
Young Bulls
In the Young Bull section there was strong competition seeing a top price of £1260 for a pair of Limousins at 14 months of age from Messrs Heathcote of Rainow and an 8 month old Limousin Bull from RJ & KA Salt of Rudyard at £1060 and two more 9 month old Limousins from the same vendors at £850.
The average for Young Bulls was £872.50.
Steers
There were 155 Steers on offer with a top price of £1545 for a pair of 22-month-old Welsh Black Steers from Messrs Shuker & Sons of Bosley with Simmental Steers from Messrs Done of Bosley at 26 months of age upto £1515 with a Limousin of 26 months of age from DR Heatley of Dilhorne at £1495 and other Limousin up to £1300 for a 22 month old beast from Messrs Shuker of Bosley and £1280 for a pair of 13 month old Limousins from E Etches of Elkstones. 12 month old Limousin Steers from JD Alcock of Elkestones exchanged hands for £1210.
An Aberdeen Angus Steer from PR Gerrard of Uttoxeter sold well at 17 months of age for £1470 with another 27 month old Aberdeen Angus Steer from J Greatbach of Wetley Rocks at £1425 and a bunch of 5 20 month old Aberdeen Angus Steers from P Salt of Whiston at £1310. Charolais Steers from Messrs Grindey & Hill of Onecote at 16 months old sold for £1460 with Montbeliarde Steers from J Greatbach of Wetley Rocks at 25 months of age at £1300 and another pair from Woodward Partners of Rudyard at 18 months of age at £1250.
A Holstien Steer from P Chadwick & Son of Thorncliffe was particularly well sold at £1205 with a Shorthorn Steer from BG Clarkson at 28 months old at £1180 and a bunch of 3 22 month old Friesian Steers for Messrs Shuker at Bosley at £1180 and a Belted Galloway Steer at 29 months of age exchanged hands for £1175 from J Greatbach of Wetley Rocks.
Hereford Steers topped at £1170 for a bunch of four 27 months old from WR Sant of Endon.
The average for Steers was £1019.81.
Heifers
There were 136 Heifers on offer with again some excellent prices achieved seeing Simmental Heifers at 33 months of age for Messrs Done of Bosley up to £1590 and a single 24 month old Simmental from the same vendor at £1500 and a 21 month old Simmental at £ 1350.
British Blue Heifers at 33 months of age from DR Heatley & Son sold up to £1520 with a 35 month old British Blue Heifer from Messrs Finney of Dilhorne at £1370 and another 32 month old British Blue Heifer from the same farm at £1305.
Limousin Heifers from R&J Shore of Biddulph at 27 months of age sold for £1430 with Charolais Heifers at 16 months of age from Messrs Grindey & Hill of Onecote at £1290 and a pair from the same vendor at the same age at £1275.
Hereford Heifers from BG Clarkson at 24 months of age sold up to £1260 with Aberdeen Angus at 21 months of age from A Beech of Milton at £1200. Shorthorn Heifers from BG Clarkson sold up to £1100 at 19 months of age. A bunch of three 13 month old British Blue Heifers from D Machin of Rudyard were all sold at £1040.
Overall average achieved was a pleasing £879. 23.
