Store Cattle Sale Report 26th March

It was a busy day of trading at Leek Cattle Market with an excellent entry of 770 Store and Breeding cattle on offer with good competition for all lots.

Breeding Section;
In the breeding section, a Limousin heifer with a Limousin heifer calf at foot from Messrs Shann if Sheen, sold for £1650 with a Charolais heifer with an Angus bull calf at foot from the same vendors at £1600.

A Hereford cow with a Charolais bull calf at foot from Sam Kidd & Family of Longnor sold for £1500 with a Charolais cow with a Charolais heifer calf at foot from the same vendor at £1420.

In calf heifers from Messrs Driver of Glossop, sold up to £1330 for a Simmental heifer PD’d in calf 5 months with another pedigree Simmental heifer from the same vendor scanned in calf at 2 months at £1270.

Young Bulls;
In the young bull section, a 25 month old pedigree Limousin bull from Paul Brook of Mayfield was well sold at £1790 with another 24 month old Limousin from the same vendor at £1710 and a third at 21 months of age at £1370.

8 month old Simmental bull calves from S Driver of Glossop sold for £980 with a 9 month old Limousin from Messrs Shann of Sheen at £850.

Overall average achieved for young bulls was £850.42.

Steers;
There were 440 steers on offer with a top price of the day being £1495 paid for a bunch of 4, 16 month old British Blue steers from Messrs Pratt of Burton on Trent with a 23 month old British Blue steer from Messrs White of Sheffield at £1410 and another bunch of 4, 23 month old British Blue steers from D & M J Worthington of Nantwich at £1345 and a single 23 month old British Blue steer from the same vendor at £1230.

19 month old British Blue steers from A & L Worthington sold for £1210.

A Charolais steer from R & M Hunter of Quarnford was well sold at £1405 with another 12 month old Charolais steer from Sam Clowes of Rudyard at £1195.

A bunch of 3, 18 month old Shorthorn steers from George Norbury of Chelford sold for £1400 with Limousin steers from JW & R Massey & Partners of Gawsworth at 17 months of age at £1370 and a pair from the same vendor at 14 months of age at £1240.

Angus steers from WG Brown & Sons of Burton upon Trent at 19 months of age sold for £1230 with Stabiliser steers at 15 months of age from Messrs Pratt at £1205.

Limousin steers from Geoff Nutter & Family at 9 months of age sold for £1090 with Simmental steers from Jack Hassall of Oakamoor at £1220 at 19 months of age.

Holstein steers were well sold at £1080 from Messrs Pratt. Other young cattle sold up to £1030 for a bunch of 3 9-10 month old Limousin steers from Robert Flower of Alstonefield with another 6, 9 month old Limousin steers from Geoff Nutter at £1010.

Overall average achieved was £826.11.

Heifers;
There were 312 heifers on offer with a top price being £1350, which was paid for a pair of 23 month old British Blue heifers from Messrs Pratt with another single from Beryl Kirkham at 26 months of age at £1260 and a 20 month old British Blue heifer again, from Beryl Kirkham at £1215.

A bunch of 5, British Blue heifers from A & L Worthington at 22 months of age at £1200.

A 21 month old Limousin heifer from A & L Worthington was well sold at £1310 with a single 16 month old Limousin heifer from Joe Austin of Parwich at £1190 and a single 20 month old Limousin heifer from Messrs Massey of Gawsworth at £1190.

3 Simmental heifers from C A Day & Sons of Upper Hulme achieved £1080 with Angus heifers from J B Rowlinson & Son of Gawsworth at 18 months of age at £1210 and a bunch of 3, Angus heifers from D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel at 25 months of age also selling for £1210.

10 month old British Blue heifers from Robert Flower of Alstonefield sold for £1055 with Simmental heifers at 16 months of age from H & E Bailey & Partners of Brown Edge at £1035 and a 27 month old Hereford heifers from Meadow View Smallholding sold for £1020 and Montbeliarde heifers from Woodward Partners of Rudyard at 20 months of age at £955.

A good shaped Charolais heifer from Mick Reeves & Family of Ipstones at 10 months of age sold well at £1010 with the overall average achieved for heifers being £772.68.
