There was again a shortage of Breeding cattle with a Beef Shorthorn feeding cow born in 2013 exchanging hands for £680.
Young Bulls
Top price paid up to £710 for a 9 month old Simmentals from John Harper of Ipstones Edge with an 8 month old Welsh Black from the same vendor at £640 with an average for young bulls being £519.72.
Steers
There were 248 steers on offer with a very pleasing average of £806.27 seeing a top price of £1245 achieved for a 31 month old Hereford steer from Roy Sant of Endon, with other Herefords up to £1160 for a 22 month old Hereford from Gareth Brain of Cresswell and a bunch of 3, 20 month old Herefords from R A Bayley of Macclesfield at £1065 with a 42 month old Hereford from Roy Sant at £1055.Limousin steers sold up to £1185 for a 21 month old beast from Charles Plant of Elkstones with a pair of 21 month old Limousin’s from Gareth Brain of Cresswell also selling for £1185 and a pair of 18 month old Limousin’s from Peter Richardson of Ipstones at £1150. The same vendor sold another pair of Limousin’s at 20 months of age for £1095.
British Blue steers topped at £1160 for the last beast sold of the day from A & L Worthington of Knutsford at 19 months of age with a single 21 month old British Blue from Charles Plant of Elkstones at £1085.
A Charolais steer from Geoff Goodwin of Wetley Rocks at 22 months of age sold for £1105 with Simmental steers at 42 months of age from Robert Day & Family of Cheddleton at £1100. Some good quality Friesian steers from Tom Johnson of Bosley were particularly well sold with a top price of £1095 for a 22 month old beast with a 25 month old beast from Gareth Brain of Cresswell at £1090 and a bunch of 5, 23 month old Friesians from Tom Johnson at £1055.
Angus steers at 16 months of age from Ray Capewell of Checkley achieved £1095 with a single 19 month old Angus steer from R A Bayley of Macclesfield at £1075 and a bunch of 4, 19 month old Angus from Joseph Torr Limited of Macclesfield at £1040.
Younger cattle sold up to £950 for a bunch of 6, 11 month old Charolais from Mick Reeves and Family of Ipstones with a single 8 month old Limousin from Des Alcock of Elkstones at £900. A pair of 9 month old Simmentals from Jim Bennison of Ipstones at £885 and a bunch of 3, 9 month old Blonde steers from Tom James of Eccleshall at £880.
Heifers
A pair of 22 month old Limousin’s from P T Chadfield of Marston Montgomery achieved £1175 with another pair of 23 month old Limousin from Gareth Brain of Cresswell at £1145 and a single 21 month old Limousin from Charles Plant of Elkstones at £1115.
Stabiliser x heifers at 23 months of age from Gareth Brain of Cresswell sold up to £1125 with Angus’ topping at £1075 for a pair of 19 month old Angus from Adam Shaw of Ashbourne with a single 17 month old Angus from Gareth Brain at £1065 for a bunch of 4.
British Blue heifers from Pat Smith of Mablethorpe achieved £1010 with Simmental heifers up to £930 from the same vendor at 18 months of age.
Younger cattle sold up to £930 for a bunch of 3 good shaped Limousin heifers at 9 months of age from Ian & Robert Smith of Ilam with a pair of 11 month old Limousin’s from Sam Hudson and family of Ilam at £820 and a pair of 11 month old Charolais from David Naylor of Glossop at £785.
A good shaped 7 month old Limousin heifer from Jonathan Worthington of Macclesfield was well sold at £750.
Overall average achieved for heifers was a pleasing £716.75.
