Store Cattle Sale Report 3rd February

There were 409 Store and Breeding Cattle on offer and a marked increase in trade in all sections with plenty of buyers around the ring looking for all categories of stock.

Breeding Section

There was another small entry of breeding cattle with a Hereford Cow with an Aberdeen Angus Bull Calf at foot, for PJ Taylor of Rainow, selling well for £1400 with an In-Calf Hereford Heifer from, Mark Cotterill of Knutton, exchanging hands for £1205.

Young Bulls

In the Young Bulls section, a Simmental Bull, at 14 months of age, from Robert Day and Family of Cheddleton, was bid for keenly and sold for £1220 with another pair of similar aged Bulls, from the same vendor, at £840.

There were other smaller Bulls on offer, which all sold well.

Steers

There were 234 Steers on offer with some excellent prices achieved, up to £1680 paid for a bunch of four Limousin Steers, from Peter Richardson of Ipstones, at 21 months of age with another pair of 18-month-old Limousin Steers, from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield, at £1505 and a 14-month-old pair of Limousin
Steers, from Ian Mardling of Stone, being particularly well sold at £1430.

Andrew Carr & Family from Waterfall sold a pair of 15-month-old Limousin Steers for £1420 and another pair of similar aged cattle at £1360.

Charolais Steers, from RF Lomas & Partners of Wincle, at 21 months of age, topped at £1605 with another 19-month-old Charolais, from the same farmer, at £1265.

Aberdeen Angus Steers, from Bullocks Farms at Congleton, at 23 months of age, sold up to £1510 with another four 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from Josepth Torr Ltd of Macclesfield, at £1465 and a single 17-month-old Aberdeen Angus, from Critchlow Bros of Sheen, at £1375.

A bunch of four 17-month-old Simmental, from Robert Day & Family of Cheddleton, being outliers, topped at £1505 with a single, from The Robinson Family of Swythamley, at 22 months of age, at £1455.

Shorthorn Steers, from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield, at 22 months of age, sold for £1500 with a Holstein Friesian Steer, from Critchlow Bros of Sheen, at 28 months of age, being bid for keenly and selling for £1450.

Montbeliarde Steers, from the James Family of Horton, at 17 months of age, sold for £1395 with British Blue Steers from, PJ Taylor of Rainow, at 28 months of age, selling for £1455 and a bunch of six 18-month-old British Blue Steers, from A Mitchell & Son of Knutsford, at £1320.

Welsh Black Steers, from the James Family of Horton, sold at £1290 with Hereford Steers selling up to £1245 for a 19-month-old from Philip Smith of Scropton.

Swedish Red Steers, from the James Family of Horton, at 17 months of age, sold for £1250.

Other younger cattle, from Sheila Kidd of Quarnford, at 10 months of age, achieved £1200 for Charolais with four 13-month-old Limousin, from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield, at £1130.

Overall average for Steers was £1047.31.

                                                                                                                                                            

Heifers

There were 159 Heifers on offer, seeing an excellent top price of £1685 for a single 29-month-old Charolais from RF Lomas & Partners of Wincle with another 29-month-old Charolais, from the same farmer, at £1480.

British Blue Heifers, for Critchlow Bros of Sheen, at 25 months old, sold up to £1560 and £1455 with Don Burton, of Rough Close, realising £1385 for a 23-month-old British Blue Heifer.

Aberdeen Angus Heifers, from Ray Turner of Rownall, were well sold at 19 months of age up to £1495 with a Holstein Heifer, at 26 months of age, selling particularly well for £1470.

Simmental Heifers, from the Robinson Family of Swythamley, at 17 months of age, made up to £1445 with a Shorthorn, from Don Burton of Rough Close, at 21 months of age, selling for £1325.

Limousin Heifers, from Alan Hayes of Alstonefield, at 22 months of age, sold up to £1305 with three 17-month-old Limousin Heifers, from Andrew Carr & Family of Waterhouses, at £1300.

Hereford Heifers, from Darren Pearson of Basford, at 22 months of age, sold for £1290.

Younger cattle sold up to £1070, for an 11-month-old Charolais, from Sheila Kidd at Quarnford with a British Blue 13 month old Heifer, from Keith Minshull & Family of Bosley, selling for £1090 and a 10 month old Limousin Heifer, from Alan Hayes of Alstonefiled, achieving £1170.

The average for Heifers was £947.37.
