Store Cattle Sale Report 4th December

There was a total entry of 462 store and breeding cattle on offer with a shortage of cows with calves at foot.

Breeding Section
A Belted Galloway with a Belted Galloway male calf at foot from John Cushing of Waterfall selling for £890 and a Hereford cow having run back to the bull for 3 months from AE & B Smith of Rocester at £870.

A bulling heifer from Mr P Sykes of Hope sold for £885.

Young Bulls
There was plenty of trade in the young bull section with the top price being £1200 for a 14 month old Simmental from Messrs Jones of Northwich with a 20 month old Simmental from the same vendors at £1130. A 7 month old Simmental from Barry Chadwick of Hilton sold for £885 with an 11 month old Hereford from T J & M Groves from Brewood at £840 and a 15 month old Hereford from Messrs Smith of Rocester at £750.

There were a number of smaller dairy-bred bulls on offer which reduced the average to £227.

Steers
There were 179 steers on offer with best quality cattle selling particularly strong up to £1430 for a 19 month old Limousin from Peter Richardson of Ipstones with a bunch of 3 Charolais, 20 month old from the same vendor at £1345.

A 29 month old Limousin from Messrs White of Sheffield exchanged hands for £1320 with another pair of 23 month old Limousins from Gareth Brain of Cresswell at £1165 and a single 23 month old Limousin from Mr Nash of Uttoxeter at £1155.

Aberdeen Angus steers from Albert Chadwick at 19 months of age sold up to £1295 with a bunch of 3, 18 month old Angus from Mr Nash of Marchington at £1125.

A pair of good shaped Longhorn cattle from Reg Potter & Company of Yeaveley over 20 month old were well sold at £1235 with another 16 month old Longhorn from the same vendor at £1115.

British Blue steers from David Curtis & Family of Basford at 20 months of age sold up to £1195 with a pair of 27 month old from Philip Gibson of Rookery at £1180 and a single 24 month old British Blue steer from Messrs White of Sheffield at £1145.

A bunch of 4 Charolais at 20 months of age from Rushton Spencer sold for £1095 with a single 20 month old Charolais from Eric Hudson from New Mills at £1080.

Stabiliser x steers from Messrs White of Sheffield at 20 months of age topped at £1080 with Herefords at 20 months of age from Gareth Brain of Cresswell at £1070 with Fleckveih steers at 20 months of age up to £1000 from Rushton Spencer.


Younger cattle sold up to £1015 for a pair of 10 month old Limousins from Frith Bros of Thorpe with an 11 month old Charolais at £1070 and a single 9 month old Charolais from Ross Worthington of Edale at £1005.

Overall average achieved for steers was £838.10.

Heifers
There were 240 heifers on offer with a top price being £1275 for a Stabiliser x at 20 months of age from Gareth Brain of Cresswell with a bunch of 4, British Blue heifers at 23 months of age from David Curtis and Family at £1205 and a single 18 month old British Blue from Mr Nash at Marchington at £1180. Blonde heifers from the same vendor at 20 months of age sold up to £1155 with Limousins up to £1105 for a 25 month old beast from Gareth Brain and Herefords topping at £1100 for a 27 month old heifer from R J Salt & Partners of Longsdon and another pair from the same vendor at 26 months of age selling for £1090.

A well finished Longhorn heifer from Reg Potter & Co of Yeaveley at 19 months of age was well sold at £1085 with Angus up to £1070 for a 17 month old beast from Mr Nash of Marchington and Simmentals up to £1040 for a 14 month old from Barry Chadwick of Hilton. A bunch of 5 Charolais at 31 months of age were well sold at £975 from Stephen Gallimore of Rookery.

Younger cattle sold up to £855 for a pair of 12 months old Limousin from Frith Brothers of Thorpe with another pair of 10 month old Limousins from the same vendor at £840 and a 10 month old Simmental from Barry Chadwick of Hilton at £800.

A pair of 7 month old Limousins from Alan Hayes sold for £760 with 9 month old Simmentals from Malcolm Beardmore of Ipstones being particularly well sold at £750.

Overall average achieved for heifers was £663.26
