Breeding Section
There was again a shortage of suckler
cows and calves with a pedigree Limousin Cow with a Limousin Heifer calf at
foot exchanging hands for £2000 from J A Nicholls of Wetley Rocks and two Breeding
Heifers sold, having run with Hereford and Aberdeen Angus Bulls, from Mr Kent
of Trent Vale, for £910 and £885.A breeding Heifer from J A Nicholls of Wetley Rocks,
at 17 months of age, being a Limousin, sold for £1030 with an Aberdeen Angus
Heifer sold, having run with the Bull, for Mr Rhodes of Cauldon realising £995.
In the Young Bulls section, a 17-month-old
British Blue from Brooklyn Farming LTD of Thorncliffe sold for £1000 with a 9-month-old
Hereford from G Goodall & Partners of Cubley at £840 and a 12 month old Aberdeen
Angus from G & L Belfield of Quarnford at £790.
There were several smaller Bulls
on offer reducing the overall average to £458.25.
Steers
There were 230 Steers on offer with some more excellent prices, seeing a
bunch of four 23-month-old British Blue Steers from David Curtis and Family of
Basford topping the market at £1590 with a pair of 25-month-old Limousin Steers
from R A Beech of Longsdon at £1520 and a bunch of four 17-month-old Limousin
from Peter Richardson of Ipstones at £1495.
Another bunch of four British Blue Steers from David Curtis and Family at
23 months of age sold for £1480 and another pair from R A Beech of Longsdon at
25 months of age, selling at £1470.
A Shorthorn Steer from S W Thornicroft of Congleton, at 18 months of age,
was well sold at £1495 with a 23-month-old Aberdeen Angus Steer from C W Pearce
& Partners of Draycott at £1465 and another Shorthorn from Ipstones, at 22
months of age, selling at £1385.
A pair of 33-month-old Simmentals from A H Seabridge of Barlaston topped
at £1380 with a 19-month-old Charolais from R A Marriot achieving £1345,
Herefords at 29 months of age from A H Seabridge of Barlaston at £1330 and
another pair from G Kirkham & family of New Haven Lodge at £1325.
A Blonde Steer at 21 months of age from C W Pearce & Partners of
Draycott sold for £1310.
Montbeliarde Steers at 22 months of age, from Pilkington Farmers of
Hartington, sold up to £1095.
Younger Cattle were dearer than a fortnight ago with a good number of
buyers looking for additional stock to winter, seeing a Limousin Steer at 7
months of age selling for £1100, a bunch of three 9-month-old Limousin Steers,
from K L Potts of Mottram St. Andrew, at £1060 and a 10-month-old British Blue
Steer, from Graham Jones of Langley, at £1010.
Overall average for Steers was £942.75.
Heifers
There were 278 Heifers on offer with the top price of the day being £1360
from R & J Shore of Biddulph at 29 months of age for two Limousins, with the
same vendor having other Limousins up to £1340 and a single 18 month old
Limousin Heifer from Robert and Andrew Williamson at £1315.
British Blue Heifers from David Curtis and Family at 24 months of age
sold up to £1350 with another bunch of three 22-month-old British Blue Heifers
at £1275 from the same vendor and a single 26 month old British Blue Heifer
from R & J Shore of Biddulph at £1265.
Shorthorn Heifers at 21 months of age, from Ipstones, sold up to £1260
with Aberdeen Angus Heifers from Adam Shaw of Ashbourne at 19 months of age realising
up to £1245 and a Friesian Cross Heifer, from Robert and Andrew Williamson, at
22 months of age selling for £1200.
Charolais Heifers from Ross Worthington of Edale, at 18 months of age
were well sold at £1070 with a 10-month-old British Blue Heifer from Graham
Jones of Langley, selling well at £1085.
A bunch of four 15-month-old Limousin Heifers from Robert and Andrew
Williamson achieved £970 and another bunch from Ben Rowlinson of Bottomhouse,
at 15 months of age, selling at £935.
A British Blue Heifer from G Matkin & Sons, at 13 months of age, sold
for £960.
Overall average achieved was £812.
