Breeding Section
Top price was £1120 paid for a British Blue cow with an Angus bull calf at foot from D L Griffin of Alstonefield with the same vendor having another British Blue cow with an Angus bull calf at foot at £980. An in calf Hereford cow from Mrs J E Watkins of Horton sold up to £900 with a Hereford cow and a Limousin steer calf at foot from Messrs Etches of Longnor at £1060. An in calf South Devon heifer from Mr Chadwick of Kniveton at £975.
There were a number of in calf cows selling up to £810 for a 77 month old Hereford from Messrs Mellor of Buxton.
A 20 month old pedigree Simmental bull from N & K Goddard of Glossop was well sold at £1160 with a 67 month old pedigree Angus bull from Mr Chadwick of Kniveton at £1260.
Young Bulls
There was a small entry of young bulls with a 14 month old Limousin from Mrs Ann Brown of Biddulph selling for £780 with a pair of 14 month old Simmentals at £660 from George Bailey of Rushton and smaller sorts from Messrs Motteram Brothers of Uttoxeter up to £440.
Steers
There were 255 steers on offer with the top price of the day being £1270 with some quality cattle from J G Curtis & Son of Basford topping the market at £1270 for a 26 month old Limousin with a bunch of 4, 25 month old Limousins from the same vendor at £1175 and an 18 month old Limousin from Geoff Wain of Brandside at £1130.
A bunch of 6, 18 month old Limousins from AD & J Potts of Astbury were well sold at £1055 with a pair of 14 month old Limousins from John and David Kidd of Quarnford at £1045.
A Fleckveih 26 month old steer achieved £1135 from J G Curtis & Son with a bunch of 6, 23 month old British Blue steers from F Williamson of Crewe at £1045 and a bunch of 4 from Messrs James of Horton at 16 months of age at £1020.
A 16 month old Charolais from C T Starkey of Whitegate achieved £960 with Angus up to £935 for a 20 month old from C H Bull & Son of Derby and another pair of 25 month old Angus from J & D Norbury of Ashley at £930.
A Montbeliarde steer from S Edge of West Hallam at 24 months old at £920 with Salers up to £910 for a 19 month old beast from Lucas Brothers of Swarkestone.
Hereford steers achieved up to £895 for a bunch of 5, 13 months old from Messrs Starkey with Friesians up to £830 for a 21 month old beast from J & W Knight of Horton. Younger cattle sold up to £795 for a pair of 10 month old Blondes from E G Taylor & Partners of Rugeley with a 7 month old Limousin from F A Yates & Co of Alstonefield selling well at £790 and another 8 month old Limousin from John and David Kidd at £775.
Overall average achieved for steers was £681.51.
Heifers
There were 250 heifers on offer with a top price being £1175 for a bunch of 4, 25 month old Limousin from J G Curtis & Son of Basford with the same vendor selling another 26 month old Limousin for £1020 with an 18 month old Limousin from Geoff Wain of Brandside at £990.
A bunch of 3, 24 month old British Blues from J G Curtis & Sons achieved £1090 with another 19 month old British Blue from C T Starkey of Whitegate at £1010 and a pair of 24 month old Angus from Harris & Partners of Rushton at £970. The same vendor sold another 21 month old Angus for £940 with Herefords up to £895 for a 24 month old beast of S Edge of West Hallam and Simmentals up to £870 for a pair of 17 month old Simmentals from Atkin Farms of Field.
Younger cattle achieved a top price of £700 for a 9 month old Limousin from F E Yates & Co of Alstonefield with a pair of 11 month old Limousin from Graham Jones of Langley at £660.
