Another pleasing entry of 578 cattle this Saturday with buyers continuing to attend from a wide area and a strong trade throughout.
Breeding Section
There was a strong trade for all types of cattle with the breeding section producing a top price from David & Gillian Storer of £1420 for a British Blue cow with a British Blue heifer calf at foot. The same farmer sold a Hereford Cow with a British Blue steer calf at foot for £1380.
Other outfits sold up to £1390 for a Pedigree Beef Shorthorn cow with a Shorthorn steer calf at foot from Geoff Tunnicliffe & family of Gradbach, with another outfit from the same vendor at £1380, both cows being run back with the Beef Shorthorn bull.
An entry of 5 in-calf Pedigree Longhorn heifers from Reg Potter & Family of Yeaveley sold well up to £1370 and £1310, £1260 all PD’d in-calf 5-6mths to the Pedigree Longhorn bull.
Young Bulls
There was a shortage of quality young bulls with a top price of £940 for a 5 month old Simmental bull from P & CM Jones, Crowley who also sold another at £810. A Charolais 11 month old bull from Rosie Watson of Fenny Bentley achieved £910 with a Limousin bull from A & L Worthington of Marthall achieving £900 and a 12 month old Saler bull from Lucas brothers of Derby at £700.
Overall average of £759.
Steers
Steers sold to a top price of £1490 paid for a bunch of three Angus steers from G & I Whieldon Bros of Hollington with other Angus steers at 24 months old from D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel at £1295 and a single 17 month old Angus steer from W G Brown & Sons, Rugeley at £1215.
Hereford steers at 23 months of age achieved up to £1485 for a bunch of three from A Turnock & Sons of Horton with a single 21 month old Hereford from A H Seabridge, Barlaston at £1270 and a pair of 27 month old Herefords from Peter Naden at £1190.
Limousin steers from J Gilman & Partners of Bosley sold up to £1460 at 24 months of age and £1350 for similar aged cattle from the same vendor. Another Limousin steers achieved up to £1170 for 10 month old top quality cattle from Ian Mardling of Stone.
Charolais steers from Peter Naden of Cheddleton sold up to £1225 for a 28 month old with British Blue steers from Messrs Thacker of Uttoxeter at 17 months of age selling up to £1175 and a £1150 for a 27 month old British Blue steer from Malcolm Unwin of Lask Edge.
A Holstein steer at 27 months age was well sold at £1200 from Messrs Brunt, Wincle
Simmental steers from H & E Bailey & Partners of Brown Edge topped at £1045 with South Devon steers at 12 months of age from K & A Wilton, Fairfield at £1040.
Overall average of £891.01.
Heifers
Heifers topped at £1620 for a top quality Angus x heifer at 29 months from A Turnock & Sons of Horton with other Angus heifers at 22 months of age at £1235 from D H Jones & Son of Holmes Chapel and a pair from Mick Clowes of Kingsley at 18 months of age selling for £1185.
South Devon heifers from K & A Wilton, Buxton were particularly well sold at 22 months of age for £1465 with another from the same vendor at 22 months of age exchanging hands for £1300.
Hereford heifers from A Turnock & Sons sold up to £1385 at 23 months of age with Limousin heifers at 33 months old age from J & I Knight, Horton at £1375 and a pair of 23 month old heifers from J Gilman & Partners of Bosley at £1300.
A pair of 27 month old Simmental steers sold for £1300 from B & BM Rowlinson, Bottomhouse.
British Blue heifers from D R & A Shuker & Sons of Bosley achieved £1255 for a 13 month old heifer with younger cattle selling up to £955 for a bunch of three 12 month old Limousins from Andrew & Tim Carr, Waterfall £940 for a single 10 months Limousin from Ian Mardling of Stone.
Overall average of £772.16.
